THUNDER BAY, Ontario - Former Western Illinois men's soccer goalkeeper Stephen Paterson has reached the 2013 Premier Development League (PDL) Championships with the Thunder Bay Chill after claiming the Central Conference title this weekend.
Paterson recorded two shutouts in as many days as the Chill defeated the Michigan Bucks 1-0 in the conference semifinals on Saturday and topped the defending champion Forest City London 3-0 on Sunday.
Thunder Bay will take on the Victoria Highlanders in the PDL Championship Semifinals in Austin, Texas at a date and time yet to be released.
In eight games with the Chill this season, Paterson has a 6-1-1 record and a 0.625 goals against average to go along with an .815 save percentage.
Paterson served as an assistant coach for the Leathernecks from 2009-12 after a record-breaking playing career. In his four-year career, Paterson set program records for goals against average (1.00), wins (35), shutouts (23), and minutes in goal (6136:27).
The PDL is considered the top developmental league in North America, featuring 64 teams split among four conferences, often serving as a stepping stone into professional leagues.
