MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois men's track and field athlete was named the Papa John's Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Monday (Dec. 9) for his performance on the court and in the classroom.
In the first meet of the season, the Indianapolis, Ind. native broke his own record in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.14 seconds and winning the event. Powell was one of three Leathernecks to win an individual event at the Holiday Preview hosted by Iowa State.
The junior construction management major maintains a 3.179 GPA.
Fighting Leatherneck track and field is back in action on Jan. 18 at the University of Illinois.
