Menís Tennis Falls Short at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa
Ė Western Illinois battled in singles play, but dropped a 7-0 decision at Iowa on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 1). The Leathernecks dropped to 0-2 on the season while the Hawkeyes improved to 2-0.

After losing his first set at number one singles, Christoph Haertel battled in the second set but lost in extras 7-4 to Jonas Dierckx. Mitch Granger fell 6-1, 6-4 in the second singles. Max Cederkall and Brandon Meeker both lost 6-0, 6-1 at the three and four singles, respectively. Chris Bunch and Brett Furmanski both lost 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth and sixth singles.

Western was swept in the doubles point.

The Fighting Leathernecks return to action next Saturday (Feb. 8), playing at Illinois-Chicago with a scheduled 6 p.m. start.
