MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois swimming & diving sophomore JD Furr was named Papa John's 'Scholar-Athlete of the Week' on Monday (Feb. 10) for his performances in the classroom and in the water. The honor is the first for Furr.
Last Friday (Feb. 7) Furr recorded a second-place finish in the 50-breast in a personal best time of 27.57 seconds at the WIU/Iowa dual meet in Iowa City, Iowa. The Crawfordsville, Ind. native also swam the second leg of the men's 400-yard medley relay that finished in second-place with a time of 3:36.08.
This season Furr ranks 10th in the conference in the 200-breast with a time of 2:09.11, which he recorded at House of Champions in late November.
In the classroom Furr owns a 3.599 GPA majoring in Clinical Laboratory Science.
Leatherneck swimming & diving will be back in the water on February 19 for The Summit League Championships in Indianapolis.
