MACOMB, Ill. - The Fighting Leatherneck football team earned its first preseason 'Top 25' national ranking on Monday when they were picked 21st in the College Sporting News list. Western Illinois returns 13 starters from last year's 8-5 team that advanced to the NCAA Division I playoffs and finished ranked 17th nationally.

Western was one of four Missouri Valley Football Conference teams listed. Northern Iowa (8th), North Dakota State (10th), Southern Illinois (17th) and Western represented the MVFC. The Leathernecks' 2011 opening opponent, Sam Houston State (Sept. 1st), received votes in the poll.

The campaign officially begins on Friday afternoon at the practice fields.

HOME OPENER KICKOFF TIME MOVED BACK: Director of Athletics Dr. Tim Van Alstine announced on Tuesday that the kickoff time on September 10th against Jacksonville has been moved back to 3 p.m.

The game originally was slated for a 1 p.m. start. It marks the home-opener for Western, the first of five games at home. It will also mark the debut of the Matrix Turf that is currently being installed at Hanson Field. The Leathernecks will look to add to their current six-game home win streak (6-0 in 2010).
