MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois returned from its first day off since the start of fall camp, hitting the fields on Monday (Aug. 15) for another two-a-day session. The Leathernecks worked out for two hours in the morning and closed with a 90 minute evening session.

Several players that were held out of the abbreviated scrimmage on Saturday returned on Monday. The team is approaching the halfway point of the 29 allotted practices before the season opens in 16 days.

The season kicks off on September 1st at Sam Houston State. The Leathernecks open at home on September 10th against Jacksonville. Season tickets are on sale by calling (309) 298-1190 or going to www.GoLeathernecks.com.

Western Illinois finished the 2010 season nationally ranked 17th in the Sports Network/Fathead.com 'Top 25' poll, but according to the preseason poll Western will have to work its way back to the rankings. In the preseason poll released Monday, Western received 247 votes which is good for 30th overall. Three Missouri Valley Football Conference teams earned a spot in the 'Top 25' (Northern Iowa, 7th; North Dakota State, 11th; and Southern Illinois, 19th)... The Leathernecks were ranked 21st in the College Sporting News preseason poll. Another poll was also released on Monday, and the Fighting Leathernecks were 19th in the College Sports Madness preview of the top 44 teams in the Division I FCS.

The summer project of putting Matrix Turf on Hanson Field is in the final stages. Pieces of the turf were starting to get laid into place on Monday. The new surface should be ready in the next two weeks, in time for the Leathernecks to get a workout in before the season-opener on September 1st at Sam Houston State.

Western's game at Missouri on September 17th has been scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The Tigers' Athletics Department and FOX Sports announced the game will be televised live on pay-per-view. The pay-per-view telecast will be available on participating cable systems in the region and nationwide to satellite and telco customers, giving fans the option to watch a game that otherwise wouldn't be shown on television.

According to Missouri officials, the game is being televised on a pay-per-view basis because it was not selected for over-the-air broadcast or cable television coverage as part of the Big 12 Conference package. Suggested retail price for residential purchase is $39.95. The telecast will be available in High Definition and will be produced and distributed by FOX Sports.

Information about how to purchase the telecast will be posted on MUTigers.com and FOXSportsMidwest.com in September as it becomes available. Participating video providers will offer the telecasts to their customers on a specially designated pay-per-view channel. It is expected that Charter, Time Warner, Mediacom, Comcast, Suddenlink, Centurylink and many more cable providers, along with DirecTV, Dish Network and AT&T U-Verse, will offer the game.
