MACOMB, Ill. - The U.S. Department of Education and NCAA released the Annual Graduation Report for Western Illinois and Leatherneck student-athletes were again able to increase the graduation rate to 69.4 percent.

This year's rate measures the amount of 2005 freshman class members who went on to complete their respective degrees within a six-year period at the university. Last year, the Leathernecks posted a percentage of 69.3, a large jump from the 55.3 percent result in 2010.

"We are pleased to announce that Leatherneck student-athletes have once again demonstrated success in the classroom with their final goal of graduation.  Credit goes to our coaches, who are clearly recruiting student-athletes who have the potential to succeed academically," Director of Athletics Dr. Tim Van Alstine said. "We want every student-athlete to leave Western Illinois with a diploma and a championship ring and this is one step in the right direction".

Men's cross country and track posted a perfect 100 percent graduation rate and were followed by football with 77.8 percent, women's cross country and track with 75 percent. All other sports are combined on the report and result in a 67.6 percentage.
