ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League announced it's 2012 men's soccer all-conference selections on Thursday night (Nov. 8), and three Leathernecks were honored.

Junior Charlie Bales and senior Nathan Bruinsma were both named First Team All-Summit, while senior Aaron Appel was recognized with Second Team All-Summit honors.

Bales is now a three-time honoree, being named to the First Team for the second straight year, after being part of the All-Newcomer Team his freshman year. In 2011, he was also the Defensive Player of the Year and Summit League Tournament MVP.

This season, Bales has anchored the Western defense, leading the team in assists (four) and adding a goal, as well.

Bruinsma also earned First Team kudos after being named to the Second Team in 2011. Bruinsma leads the team in goals (five) and points (12).

All of his goals and assists have been in conference action, making him the leader in The Summit in points in conference play, also tying him for the lead in goals in conference play.

Appel's Second Team recognition is the first award of his career. The senior team captain is one of just two Leathernecks to play in all 18 games, and is tied for second on the team with two assists.

The Leathernecks open play in the league playoffs Friday (Nov. 9) against Kansas City at 2 p.m. at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.
