ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Redshirt-freshman J.J. Raffelson (Lake Zurich/Lake Zurich) and junior transfer Fredson Salomon (Miami, FL/North Miami/ASA) represented Western Illinois on the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team. The league office announced the Newcomer squad on Tuesday.

A finalist for the Jerry Rice Award (National Freshman of the Year), Raffelson earned Honorable Mention All-MVFC accolades this season. He recorded 105 stops overall, including four for a loss. Five times during his rookie year he reached double-digits in tackles. He currently stands in a tie for 32nd nationally averaging 9.6 tackles per game, and among all freshman nationally has the third-most tackles. Raffelson finished fourth in the voting as the league's Top Freshman, and tied for fourth in the Newcomer of the Year voting.

Salomon finished second on the team making 30 receptions totaling 373 yards. He accounted for both of the team's touchdown receptions (25 and 66 yards at South Dakota), averaging 12.4 yards per catch. The JUCO transfer also led the Leathernecks averaging 17 yards per kickoff return, 442 yards on 26 attempts. He was voted MVFC 'Newcomer of the Week' following the win over South Dakota, and also was an Honorable Mention selection by the College Football Performance Awards.
