MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois baseball closes out the fall workout season with the 'Omaha Challenge' all this week. The challenge is set up to test the agility and strength of the players. The three-day event began on Monday (Nov. 26), and continued Wednesday (Nov. 28). The challenge will conclude this Friday (Nov. 30).

All 34 players on the roster were split into four separate teams at the beginning of the week. Each squad has battled it out thus far with hopes that their team will take home the challenge championship.

Monday evening saw the players out at Hanson Field. Each team competed in various events, including: tire flip, medicine ball throw, prowler pulls and a human centipede. Teams were all timed and given points based on their performances.

On Wednesday the student-athletes were inside Western Hall for agility and strength tests. Teams battled it out in the rope climb, pull-ups, circuit run and ended things in the weight room with body weight squats. Teams were once again awarded points for their performances in the events. As a team, the players amassed 549 pull-ups and 1327 total body weight squats.

"I have been in quite a few weight rooms over the last 20 years and honestly what I saw tonight (Wednesday) in our weight room was the most impressive thing I have seen." said first-year head coach Ryan Brownlee, "There wasn't one player that didn't push himself above and beyond what he is capable of doing. There was raw emotion coming out of every corner of the room. It was a great example of what happens when people focus on a goal and put their heart and soul into that one thing."

Friday the challenge will conclude with an obstacle course outdoors. Players will all be timed on the course. The top overall finisher will get 34 points for his respective team (34 players) with each following finisher getting one point less.

"It is hard to describe how proud I am of our guys. I am excited to see how the boys handle Friday, it will be a great finish to fall workouts." ended Brownlee.
