MACOMB, Ill. - Two members of the Leatherneck softball team were named to Preseason All-League Teams by College Sports Madness on Monday (Jan. 14). Sophomore Sammy Marshall was predicted to garner First Team honors and junior Briana Williams was selected to earn Second Team recognition from the Summit League in 2013.
Marshall earned First Team All-Summit League honors in 2012 after leading the nation in stolen bases per game (1.8) and setting Western Illinois and Summit League single season records for steals (45-for-45).
The Naperville, Ill. native was a three-time Summit League Player of the Week selection and led the league in batting (.420) and stolen bases (45). The shortstop paced the Leathernecks in hitting (.420), on-base percentage (.449), stolen bases (45), runs scored (38) and sacrifice hits (10). Out of 38 games played, Marshall recorded 17 multiple hit performances at the leadoff position.
Williams started all 51 games in the outfield for Western Illinois in 2012, and earned a batting average of .299 and an on-base percentage of .382. She was second on the team in stolen bases, swiping 19 of 22 attempted, giving her the No. 8 spot in the Western Illinois record book for stolen bases in a season.
The Oklahoma City, Okla. native compiled nine multiple hit games and had a season high five-game hitting streak. Williams also stole two or more bases in a game on five occasions and recorded one outfield assist against Kansas City on April 5.

The Fighting Leathernecks open the 2013 season at the Belmont Spring Tournament in Nashville, Tenn. The squad will face Central Arkansas at 11:15 a.m. and Belmont at 6 p.m. on Feb. 9, followed by Jackson State at 11:15 a.m. and Valparaiso at 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 10.
