Taylor's Second Place High Jump Finish Highlights Weekend Meets

LINCOLN, Neb. & NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Several Leathernecks recorded strong performances as Western Illinois track & field was split between meets at Nebraska and Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday.

Jamario Taylor, Dana LaRue and Nathaniel Marshall traveled to the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite at Nebraska, while several others participated in the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame.

In the high jump, Taylor finished in second with a leap of 7-00.25, behind only a Nebraska alum who was a former Olympian and NCAA champion, and ahead of jumpers from Nebraska, Missouri, Baylor, Kentucky, and more.

LaRue added a pair of top 10 finishes, finishing fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 59-08.25, to go along with an eighth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 50-04.00.

Rounding out the competition at Nebraska was Marshall, who finished eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 61-02.75.

Highlighting Western's effort at Notre Dame was Michael Castel who made his season debut in the 3,000-meter run, finishing 12th out of 42 in 8:30.02, a time that places him fourth in program history in the event.

Glenn Powell finished 19th of 49 in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.26.

In the 5,000-meter run on the women's side, Alycia Thurston's time of 17:58.89 places her eighth in school history.

The Leathernecks will compete in another two-day meet next weekend as they travel to Iowa State on Friday and Saturday.
