MONMOUTH, Ill. - Western Illinois men's tennis split a pair of matches on Friday, defeating Knox College 9-0 after falling to Toledo 7-0.
The Leathernecks move to 6-7 overall, while Toledo improves to 10-5 and Knox moves to 2-3.
Western Illinois won every set against Knox, with Ben Yue, Mitch Granger, Max Cederkall and Brett Furmanski each winning twice.
Yue won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles to pace Western, and no other Leatherneck allowed more than two games in a set.
At second and third singles, Granger and Cederkall won 6-0, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
Meeker won 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles, Chris Bunch won 6-0, 6-2 at fifth singles, and Furmanski won 6-2, 6-0 in the sixth slot to round out singles play.
Western also swept the doubles matches, beginning at No. 1 singles, where Bradley Holt teamed with Granger to win 8-6.
Yue and Meeker won 8-4 at second doubles, while Cederkall and Furmanski cruised to an 8-1 victory at third doubles.
Toledo won every set against Western, though every Leatherneck won at least two games, including Patrick Hammers, who battled, despite falling 6-2, 7-5.
The Leathernecks will continue weekend play tomorrow, taking on North Dakota and No. 41-ranked Drake in Des Moines, Iowa.
