FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Western Illinois baseball fell to #1 Arkansas 7-2 in game two of a three game series on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 16). The loss gives Western a 0-2 record to start the season.
The Purple & Gold had seven separate players get hits in the game, led by redshirt-freshman Jameson Henning who had two. Henning recorded a double in the first inning and a single in the top of the eighth.
The Razorbacks got on the board first after Matt Vinson singled through the right side of the field scoring two in the second inning.
Arkansas would add one run in the fourth and four more in the sixth inning to take a 7-1 lead.
The Leathernecks got their final run of the game in the ninth inning. Sophomore Jake Moore doubled down the first base line to lead off the inning for Western. Moore would advance to third on a single by sophomore Mark Garton, and would score when junior Tanner Glore hit into a double play.
Leatherneck sophomore Tyler Willman (0-1) picked up the loss in the game. The righty went 5 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits while striking out two.
Barrett Astin (1-0) picked up the win for the Razorbacks. The junior went five innings, allowing three hits while striking out three.
The final game in the three game series will take place tomorrow afternoon (Feb. 17). Game time is set for 1:05 p.m., with Mason Pingel slated to start for Western. Arkansas will start senior lefty Trent Daniel.
