TULSA, Okla. - Four Leathernecks won individual events as the Western Illinois track & field team opened its outdoor season at the Tulsa Duels on Saturday.
Talisa Watson jumped into the program record books by winning the high jump with a leap of 5-05.00, moving her into ninth in program history. She also finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing in 15.09.
Dana LaRue was victorious in the shot put with a throw of 49-11.00 to defeat the field of 12.
Jeff Liles rounded out the Western Illinois group of winners in the 400-meter hurdles, defeating the field of 11 in 55.87.
Nathaniel Marshall earned a trio of top-four finishes. He finished second in the hammer throw (187-0), third in the shot put (48-11.50), and fourth in the discus (147-04), right behind teammate Breyonte Brewer who was third with a toss of 152-03.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Glenn Powell crossed the line in second place in a time of 14.85.
Taylor's high jump mark ranks in the top five nationally, while LaRue's shot put and Marshall's hammer marks rank in the top 10 through the first weekend of competition.
The Leathernecks will have a week off, returning to action on March 29 at Southern Illinois.
