ELMHURST, Ill. – Western Illinois’ Jack Houpt was one of five Summit League players named to the 2012-13 Summit League Academic All-League Team as voted by the Faculty Athletic Representatives and Sports Information Directors of the league’s nine member institutions.
Houpt, a graduate student with a 3.666 GPA in sport management, has started all 30 games for the Leathernecks this season and averages 7.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. He is shooting 91.7 percent from the free throw line and 41.2 percent from three-point range while helping lead his team to the regular season co-championship.
South Dakota State led the way with two selections in guard Brayden Carlson and forward Jordan Dykstra, and the other two players to make the team were Oakland’s Travis Bader and Omaha’s John Karhoff.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
