MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois Football took to the field on Friday afternoon (March 22) for practice number two this spring.
The weather warmed up by nearly 20 degrees than the opener on Wednesday as the Leathernecks worked out for two hours at Hanson Field.
First year head coach Bob Nielson noted the progress that his squad has made during the first two sessions.
“There were some good things… at the same time I think, as you would expect in the second day when you put in a new system offensively, we’re still learning,” said Nielson. “Things go a little slower than what you like, but I like our guys’ attitudes, the excitement, and the enthusiasm. We are going to keep building on that.”
As Western continues to learn a new offensive system, Nielson said confidence will come with additional practice.
“The terminology is all different. It’s one thing to talk about it and put it on the board and watch somebody do it on film. It’s another thing to actually do it yourself,” said Nielson. “The more repetitions that we get, the better we’ll get and the more confidence we’ll get in executing it (the offense).”
Western will take the weekend off of practice and return to Hanson Field on Monday.
