BLOOMFIELD, Mich. - The Leatherneck women's tennis team faltered in the final match of the weekend on Sunday (Mar. 30) to the Coyotes of South Dakota. Western fell 7-0.
The Leathernecks had a tough time in singles play. Yessenia Mejia fell at number one singles 6-2, 6-0 to the Coyotes' Milica Pavlovic. It was Michelle Elkin defeating Elana Berdichevsky at number two singles 6-0, 6-2. Megan Pazdernick faltered at number three singles when she was beat by Hafsa Laraibi 6-1, 6-0. South Dakota's Nina Barudzic beat Holly Conlin at number four singles 6-0, 6-0. At number five singles, Kristen Havelka fell to Veronika Makashov 6-1, 6-2. Lastly, at number six singles it was Western's Ese Davis falling to Yamini Reddy 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles play, the match between Pavlovic/Maria Tortosa and Berdichevsky/Pazdernick went unfinished. Mejia/Conlin fell to Laraibi/Elkin 8-0. Finally, Jessica Callahan and Jessica Theobald were defeated by Barudzic/Makashov 8-0.
The Leathernecks drop to 0-15 overall on the season and 0-7 in Summit League conference play. Western will be in action next Sunday (Apr. 7) when they play host to Roosevelt University.
