OMAHA, Neb. - Western Illinois softball used a Megg Kelly go-ahead double to left in the top of the seventh inning to take its first lead of the series over Omaha 4-3. A three up, three down bottom half solidified the final win for the Leathernecks and handed the Mavericks its second Summit League loss of the year.

With the win, Western moves to 14-21 altogether and 8-14 in conference action, while Omaha falls to 34-6 overall and 12-2 in league play.

After trading zeroes with the Leathernecks in the first, the Mavericks used two hits and an error to plate two and stake an early lead.

In the top of the fourth, Kelly was hit by a pitch with one away and came around to score on a Lia Romeo double to right cutting the deficit to a single run. It was Romeo's seventh double of the season, which is a team-high.

The Mavericks used an Allie Mathewson solo home run to get the run back in the top of the fifth, but that would be it for the Omaha offense as the Leatherneck defense kept them scoreless in the remainder of the contest.

An Alex Pflieger single and a Romeo hit by pitch put two on for Western in the top of the sixth. Teagan Walsh came through with a single to right to bring the Leathernecks back within one run heading into the seventh.

Karissa Kouchis reached on an error to open the seventh and Sammy Marshall followed with a single up the middle. Kelly ripped her fourth double of the season to drive in two and give Western a 4-3 advantage.

Kelsey Michelini and the Leatherneck defense used a strikeout, a groundout and a pop out to retire the Mavericks in order and pick up their eighth conference win of the season.

A pair of Leathernecks had a multiple hit performance including Walsh (2-for-3) and Marshall (2-for-4). Kelly paced Western with two RBI, while Romeo and Walsh each notched one in the game.

Michelini (8-11) picked up the complete game victory in the circle. She fanned five and allowed two earned runs. Omaha's Dana Elsasser (20-6) took the loss allowing two earned runs and nine Leatherneck hits.

Western Illinois wraps up the 2013 regular season at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium in Macomb with double header action against No. 11 Mizzou on Wednesday (May 1). First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
