LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Leatherneck shortstop Sammy Marshall was named to the Midwest's 2013 NFCA Division I All-Region Second Team as announced on Thursday (May 16). Honorees were voted in by NFCA member coaches from each respective region and those awarded remain in the running for All-America recognition.
A total of 263 players from 137 teams were chosen to represent each region. A first and second team selection was made for positions in all 10 regions.
The Summit League's head coaches voted Marshall Player of the Year after she led the conference in batting average (.465) and on-base percentage (.534), was named Player of the Week on two occasions and earned First Team All-League recogntion for the second consecutive year.
The Naperville, Ill. native also ranks among the nation's 'Top 20' in five statistical categories. She has paced the nation for seven consecutive weeks in stolen bases per game (0.94), ranks fourth in triples per game (0.15), sixth in batting average (.465), 15th in triples (5) and 17th in on-base percentage (.534).
Marshall has also received academic recognition following her 2013 season. She was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Second Team and to the Summit League Academic All-League Team.
