MACOMB, Ill. – Fans who attended the Western Illinois Football game last week enjoyed a new feature at Hanson Field. Athletics Director Tommy Bell joined with Neoti in a program to provide a portable video board at Hanson Field.

The board, measuring 23 feet across and 13 feet high, displayed promotional graphics, feature videos by Leatherneck Athletics, and a live game feed courtesy of WIU-TV3 broadcasting.

“The project is a pilot program to experiment with Neoti as an alternative to the permanent scoreboard/video board project here at Western Illinois University,” said Bell. “I wanted to look into alternative ideas rather than a permanent video board at Hanson Field. Neoti is a well-known company around collegiate athletics. They are currently working with a few other Division I institutions.”

Company representatives set up the board the day prior to the Leathernecks’ season-opener and took it down following the game. Bell said this gives Western more flexibility in promoting the Athletics Department and the University. He mentioned receiving numerous compliments about the video board during and after the event.

“We have anywhere from 5-7 events at Hanson during the fall, in addition to the Lee Calhoun Invitational track meet in the spring. Partnering with Neoti on this project enhances our fans’ gameday experience, and best of all the board is portable. Many fans mentioned to the staff and to myself about how impressed they were with the look of the video board and quality of video. Neoti did a great job running the board during the game, and adding the live action feed from our broadcasting department certainly enhanced the product.

“The positive about renting the board is that when technology changes and improves, so will the video board. You’re not stuck with a product that may be outdated in 3-5 years,” said Bell. “I think this is a great start to future possibilities.”
