Western Wins #1 Doubles Flight at Art Peterson Invitational

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois took the championship in the number one doubles flight as day two of the Art Peterson Invitational concluded on Saturday (Sept. 7).

The top doubles team of Ben Yue and Christoph Haertel won their opening match 8-4, then in the semifinals had to go extra to defeat the team from Wisconsin-Whitewater 9-7. The Leatherneck duo defeated Chicago State in the finals 8-6.

Mitch Granger and Max Cederkall (both winners in their respective singles flight) won their opening match in doubles play 8-0, but lost in the semifinals 8-3 then in the playback 8-6.

Brett Furmanski teamed with a Chicago State player in the number two doubles flight. They lost their opener, but won 8-1 and 8-6 to take the consolation bracket title.

Brandon Meeker and Chris Bunch won their opener in the number three doubles in a tie-breaker 9-8. They lost in the semifinals, but won in a walk-over to take the semis reprieve.

Western competes at the SIU Edwardsville Invitational in two weeks.
