ATHLETIC TRAINING AND SPORTS MEDICINE

The Western Illinois Athletic Training Department provides first-class sports medicine services to the student-athletes of Western Illinois University. All services offered are within the six domains of the Board of Certification Standards of Practice. The six practice domains include: Injury Prevention, Healthcare Organization, Emergency Care, Therapeutic Rehabilitation and Treatment, Orthopedic Evaluation/Clinical Diagnosis, Administration and Professional Responsibility.

The Western Illinois Athletic Training Department and its staff has several purposes to carry out while working with Western student-athletes. First, gold standard medical protocols and treatments should be used for all athletic injuries and illnesses. Second, return student-athletes to competition when medically safe. Third, stay current with new treatment recommendations for athletic injuries. Fourth, adhere to BOC practice standards, State of Illinois Athletic Training Practice Standards, and the NATA Code of Ethics. Lastly, all staff members should garner and demonstrate advanced athletic training knowledge through continuing education, and maintain all professional certifications required.

Finally, Western Illinois Athletic Training aims to be a division of excellence within the athletic department. We are committed to the health and wellness of our student-athletes, and to the success of Western Illinois University.
