MACOMB, Ill. –
Fighting Leatherneck baseball used a combination of timely hitting and consistent pitching to take down the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees 8-1 on Wednesday (Apr. 24). The win marks the third consecutive victory for the Leathernecks and improves the teams overall record to 10-25.

The Purple & Gold used eight pitchers in the game, with John White (2-4) getting the victory. White threw one full inning with two strikeouts to pick up his second win of the year. The seven other Western pitchers combined to strikeout 11 batters and not allow a run on the afternoon.

Western jumped out to an early lead in the first inning after Zack Burling led off the game with his third double of the season and scored on a throwing error by St. Ambrose.

The Fighting Bees would also capitalize on an error to score their first and only run of the game in the third inning. Luke Flanagan singled up the middle to lead off the inning and crossed the plate after a fielding error to tie the game at 1-1.

The lead would not last long however as Western scored their second run of the contest in the bottom of the third to go on top for good. Jameson Henning singled in the inning and came around to score after Steve Kedroski doubled to right center field.

After a scoreless fourth inning from both teams, the Leathernecks poured in four runs in the fifth to widen the lead. Dan Dispensa led off the inning with a walk, and scored after Henning and Kedroski hit back-to-back singles for Western. Brent Turner also doubled home two runs in the inning and crossed the plate on a Mark Garton RBI single.

The Leathernecks added one more run in both the sixth and seventh innings to go up 8-1, which would be the final score in the game.

Both Henning and Kedroski led the Leathernecks with three hits apiece. Henning also tied his career high with three runs scored and Kedroski matched his season high of three RBI.

Western will have one day off before heading to Fort Wayne, Ind. for a four-game series with the Mastodons this weekend. Game one is set for 2 p.m. (CT) this Friday (Apr. 26), with Aaron Michel slated to make his second career start for the Leathernecks.
