EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Junior Jamario Taylor tied the high jump program record and Western Illinois picked up seven event wins Saturday (April 21) at the SIUE Gateway Classic. Both the women (173 points) and men (193 points) placed second overall in the team standings.

Taylor placed second in the men's high jump by clearing a height of 7-00.50. His effort ties Dave Stoermer's program record set back in 1977. Taylor's personal best ranks first in The Summit League and 26th nationally.

In the women's triple jump, freshman Megan McGlone placed second with the third best effort in program history. Her personal best leap of 38-07.00 currently ranks third in The Summit League.

Senior Lizzy Jones set personal bests in both the women's discus and hammer throw. She won the discus throw competition with a toss of 154-05, which ranks fourth in both program history and The Summit League. Jones' hammer throw of 171-10 was good enough for second place and ranks seventh in program history.

Senior Jordan Liles won the men's javelin throw competition with a personal best effort of 192-03, which ranks sixth in program history and second in The Summit League. Dana LaRue won the women's shot put (47-08.83) and placed third in the hammer throw with a personal best effort of 165-08, which ranks eighth in program history.

Senior Paul Hames used a personal best toss of 169-01 to win the men's discus throw. His effort ranks tenth in program history and second in The Summit League. Hames also placed second in the shot put with a personal best effort (51-00.20).

Junior Jeff Veal cleared a personal best height of 14-09.00 to win the men's pole vault. His effort ranks tenth in program history. Junior Talisa Watson won the women's high jump by clearing a personal best height of 5-04.75, which ranks tenth in program history.

Sophomore Kirsten Bryant placed second in the women's 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 57.04, which ranks tenth in program history. With a time of 1:01.81, senior Amy Byers won her fourth 400-meter hurdles competition of the season.

Junior Danielle Gunn set personal bests in the 100-meter dash (12.34), 200-meter dash (25.93) and long jump (17-02.29). Sophomore Nathaniel Marshall used a personal best to finish fourth in the men's discus throw (157-09) and also placed third in the hammer throw (182-09).

Sophomore Michael Castel finished second in the men's 1,500-meter run (3:57.72) while junior Chelsea Lynes placed third in the women's race (4:36.82). Junior Megan Wyffels used a personal best effort of 109-02 to finish second in the women's javelin throw.     

Other personal bests include Alec Dorathy (100-meter dash - 11.09) Michael Hemming (200-meter dash - 22.34), Tyler Hintz (pole vault - 12-05.60), Cedric Cheeks (long jump - 22-04.50), Jessica Przyby (discus throw - 121-10), Tyler Elston (discus throw - 137-06 & hammer throw - 147-02) and Dylan King (javelin throw - 130-11).
