BOSTON, Mass. - Senior guard Ceola Clark III has been named to the 2012 Mid-Major Defensive All-American team after earning his second Summit League 'Defensive Player of the Year' award.
Clark, who will return to the Leathernecks after being granted a sixth year from the NCAA, became the first-ever two-time Summit League 'Defensive Player of the Year' this season. The senior guard anchored a Leatherneck defense that finished the year ranked first in The Summit League and 22nd in the country in defensive scoring.
The All-League Second Team member helped the Leathernecks reach the Summit League Tournament finals after upending top-seeded Oral Roberts in the semifinals, a run that propelled Western to its first-ever postseason berth as an NCAA Division I program.
During his 2011-12 campaign, the Gurnee, Ill. native collected 50 steals, and became the program leader in career steals.
Clark concluded last season averaging 37.4 minutes per game, the most in The Summit League, a team-high 13.3 points per game, while shooting 44.9 percent from the field, and 46.2 percent from beyond the arc, which ranked fifth nationally.
