MACOMB, Ill. - John MacKenzie Alumni Field, home of the Western Illinois men's and women's soccer programs, has a new look to it after the placement of windscreens on the south and east sides of the pitch, thanks in large part to important corporate sponsors.
The new windscreens, created by BigSigns.com, were paid for by its sponsors, Woodrum Toyota of Macomb, First State Bank of Illinois, and University Housing and Dining.
Assistant Athletics Director Sean McDonough couldn't thank the windscreen's sponsors enough when discussing the upgrade.
McDonough continued to stress his appreciation towards his the windscreen project sponsors.
"Again, we can't thank our sponsors enough," said McDonough. "We are very appreciative of Mike Woodrum from Woodrum Toyota, Jordan Pounders and everyone over at First State Bank, and John Biernbaum from University Housing and Dining."
The south side of the purple windscreen features Leatherneck soccer in gold text, surrounded by soccer great from the men's and women's programs. To the left of the text are three men greats in Kosuke Kimura,
A Woodrum Toyota graphic is placed on the far left end of the south side windscreen, and a First State Bank of Illinois graphic is located on the far right. Also featured on the south side are both the men's and women's conference championships and NCAA appearances.
On the east side purple windscreen, gold text stating 'This is Leatherneck Country' is featured. A Summit League logo is placed to the right of the text, and another First State Bank of Illinois graphic, completing the First State Bank Corner, as well as a University Housing and Dining Services logo are placed on the far left of the east side.
Women's soccer coach Tony Guinnbelieves the visual attraction will bring more fans to soccer games.
"The windscreen that has been added looks great. It is nice to see an
attractive fence from far away and know exactly what is going on behind
that fence," said Guinn. "Not only will it block the wind around the field in game
situations, but I believe it is even going to attract more people come
and support Western Illinois Athletics, in this case the soccer
Men's soccer head coach Dr. Eric Johnson talked about his team's excitement about the additions to John MacKenzie Alumni Field.
"Our coaching staff and players are very appreciative of the work that Josh Moon and Sean McDonough put in to design, secure funding, and purchase of the new windscreen that covers the south and east sides of John MacKenzie Alumni Field, stated Johnson. "It is truly a 'wow' factor, and a great addition to our facility. Thanks to First State Bank, Woodrum Toyota, and our own University Housing and Dining for sponsoring this project."
