COLUMBIA, Mo. - Western Illinois softball fell 8-0 after six innings of play to No. 10 Missouri Tigers. The run rule loss gives the Leathernecks an overall record of 22-20.
After trading zeros with the Leathernecks in the first two innings, the Tigers took advantage of a bases loaded scenario scoring four runs on no hits and two errors to post an early lead.
Missouri tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth when Nicole Hudson started off with a double and was plated on a pinch hit single from Kayla Kingsley. The hits were the first of the game for the Tigers and equaled the first earned run of the contest.
A three-run walkoff homerun off the bat of Nicole Hudson in the bottom of the sixth put the 8-0 run rule victory in the books.
Kelsey Michelini was tagged with eighth loss of the season in the circle, while Kristin Nottelmann earned her 11th win of the season.
The Leathernecks return to the diamond for a weekend series against Summit League foe IPFW. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday (April 21) at 12 p.m. and a single game on Sunday (April 22) at 12:30 p.m.
