MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois men's tennis dropped a tight 4-3 match to future Summit League member Nebraska-Omaha at home on Monday (April 16). The loss gives the Leathernecks a 4-13 overall mark in the 2012 spring season.
Patrick Hammers played to his seventh singles victory of the season at No. 1 singles defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-3. In the No. 2 spot, Ben Yue recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win to give him a team best 9-8 winning record on the year. The pair teamed up in No. 1 doubles competition and defeated their Maverick opponents 8-5.
Also picking up a win in singles play was Andrew Yopp at the No. 4 spot. He got the best of his opponent 6-4, 6-3 to record his fourth singles victory of the season.
Nebraska-Omaha recorded wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles and at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to squeak by Western Illinois with a 4-3 advantage.
The Fighting Leathernecks are back on the court tomorrow (April 17) against the Braves of Bradley. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on the Brophy Courts.
