MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois swimming and diving head coach Greg Naumann announced the addition of four student-athletes to the 2012-13 recruiting class. Taylor Ferger of Rockford, Ill., Austin Payne of Good Hope, Ill. and Sarah Rosenhauer of Columbia, Mo. bring the class total to 18.
Taylor Ferger
Event: Diving
Hometown: Rockford, Ill.
High School: Boylan Catholic
Parents: Brad & Jeannine Ferger
Taylor Ferger earned four varsity letters in diving while at Boylan Catholic. As a senior, she was awarded NIC-10 All-Conference, crowned the Sectional Champion and qualified for the State meet where she placed 15th overall. She also holds high school records in both six dives and eleven dives.
While at Western Illinois, Ferger plans to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice.
Head Coach Greg Naumann: "Taylor will be coming into our season as a strong diver. She will be able to add some much needed competitors and points on both one-meter and three-meter boards throughout the season and at conference. Taylor should be able to score well at our conference meet placing in the top eight on both boards."
Austin Payne
Event: Free
Hometown: Good Hope, Ill.
High School: West Prairie
Parents: Brad & Sara Payne
Austin Payne is a local product who joins the Leathernecks after swimming two seasons at Lincoln College. He earned All-America honors in the 800 Free Relay and placed fourth at Nationals in the same event.
While at Western Illinois, Payne plans to pursue a degree in Manufacturing Technology.
Head Coach Greg Naumann: "Austin will be transferring in from Lincoln College where he had a successful junior college career. He will be adding some much needed speed in our sprint freestyle events. I expect to see him as one of our top four sprinters for next year, which will give him an opportunity to help our 200, 400 and 800 Free Relays place better at conference."
Sarah Rosenhauer
Event: Breast
Hometown: Columbia, Mo.
High School: Rock Bridge
Parents: Eric & Sandy Rosenhauer
Sarah Rosenhauer is a varsity swimming letterwinner out of Rock Bridge High School. She was a State Qualifier, named to the Missouri Valley Swimming Running Top 8 in 2008-12 and qualified for Junior Nationals in 2011.
Rosenhauer, a four-time Missouri Valley All-Academic Team member, is currently undecided on a major.
Head Coach Greg Naumann: "Sarah will be our top breaststroker next season. I expect her to be able to place in the top eight in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at conference. She will also be a very integral part of our medley relays during the season and at conference. She should be able to place high on Western Illinois' top ten list as a freshman."
