MACOMB, Ill. - Four Western Illinois women's golfers were recently named All-American Scholars by the National Golf Coaches Association. Western Illinois and UMKC led The Summit League with four selections each, accounting for half of The Summit League's 16 honorees.
The four Leathernecks honored were senior Samantha Hainline (Galva,
Ill./Galva), who majored in Athletic Training and graduated this spring, junior Alexa Arent (Appleton,
Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) who is majoring in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration, freshman Ashley Jeffers (West Chester,
Ohio/Lakota West) who is majoring in Broadcasting, and freshman Jessica Knepp (El Paso,
Ill./El Paso-Gridley) is who majoring in Pre-Business.
Hainline finished the season with a 85.1 stroke average, Arent tallied a 82.6 stroke average in 2011-12, while freshmen Jeffers and Knepp record stroke averages of 81.2 and 82.7, respectively.
A total of 585 women from NCAA Divisions I, II and III were selected for the award, which requires a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average. Division I players must play in 50 percent of their team's scheduled competitions.
