Greg Naumann, a former Leatherneck swimmer and student assistant coach, joined the Western Illinois Fighting Leatherneck swimming and diving programs as head coach in August 2009.

In his first year at the helm, Naumann coached three Western Illinois swimmers to all-Summit League honors and saw seven Leathernecks entered the school record books during the 2009-10 season. The Western Illinois men's and women's swimming and diving teams both finished sixth at the 2010 Summit League Championships.

Naumann took over at Western Illinois area after serving as the assistant coach at Truman State where his responsibilities included serving as the primary recruiter for the men’s team, coordinating travel arrangements, organizing workouts and assisting the head coach in daily duties. 

In 2007, the Davenport, Iowa native was named head coach at Division III Augustana College. In addition to Augustana, Naumann was named head coach for Team Iowa at NCAA Zones in 2007 and assistant coach in 2006.

Naumann also served as the head coach of the Davenport Metro Swim team for three years (2005-08) and was the assistant for four years (2000-04) while obtaining his master’s degree in sport management from Western Illinois in 2006.

In August 2003, Naumann started a two-year head coaching stint at Macomb High School where he coached Alayna Colley, now a junior in Western’s swimming and diving program, to the Illinois High School State meet as a freshman and sophomore. He also coached a boys relay team made up of Joel Beard, Josh Murphy, Alex Johnson and Dan Buren to the Illinois High School State meet for the first time in more than 10 years. 

A four-year letterwinner at Western (1998-2002), Naumann was a part of the 1998-99 conference championship team under then-head coach Jerry Champer. Champer led the men's and women's programs to five championship titles in seven seasons. Naumann joined Champer for the 2002-03 season as a student assistant coach and also served as the head coach for the McDonough County YMCA.

Naumann is an active member of the American Swim Coaches Association and a level three coach.
