Ashley Luke Highlighted in SLAM Magazine's Collector's Edition

The junior forward is touted for her basketball and classroom performances in the August 2014 edition of Slam.

MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois women's basketball forward Ashley Luke is highlighted in the most recent issue of SLAM magazine where she is touted for her athletic and academic performances in the "Hype" section of the Special Collectors Edition.

In the "Picture Me Ballin'" feature on page 20, author Alex Schulz states that the junior is "a force to be reckoned with," and further describes Luke as "impressive" and "elite".

"It is great to see Ashley and our team get some ink in a magazine like SLAM," said head coach JD Gravina. "You don't normally see a mid-major women's basketball player get much publicity."

Luke finished last season with a national top-40 ranking in four statistical categories (double-doubles, scoring, rebounding and field-goal percentage), and is one of eight women's basketball players in the country who averaged more than 20 ppg and 10 rpg. These numbers and Luke's talent are cited as reasons for Western Illinois women to be Summit League contenders this upcoming season.

"Ashley's numbers as a sophomore were off the charts, and she is actually showing significant improvement this summer," said Gravina.

Her appearance in the nationally distributed basketball magazine adds to Luke's list of accolades and recognition that includes First Team All-Summit League membership and status as a CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-American.

Ashley is a double major at Western Illinois in Journalism/Public Relations and Biology with a 4.0 GPA and returns for her junior season to lead a Leatherneck women's basketball team that brings back 10 players and four starters from last year.

The August 2014 edition of SLAM that features Luke is currently available for purchase at newstands and retailers around the country.
