Trenton Norvell Named CFPA Honorable Mention

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sophomore quarterback Trenton Norvell (Daytona Beach, Fla./Seabreeze) picked up his first weekly accolade from the College Football Performance Awards following the season-opening win over Valparaiso.

Norvell was an Honorable Mention selection by the CFPA after he set career-highs in completion percentage (71.4) and yards (320) while matching his personal-best in TD passes (4) in the 45-6 win.

He completed 20-of-28 passes, including six of 20-plus yards to six different receivers. Norvell became the first Leatherneck quarterback to surpass 300 passing yards in three years, and he matched his TD passing total from the Missouri State game last year.

Norvell leads the Missouri Valley Football Conference in passing efficiency (2nd nationally/214.6), passing TDs, and points accounted for (24) while ranking second in completion percentage.

The Leathernecks (1-0 overall) travel to previously No. 14-ranked Wisconsin on Saturday morning (Sept. 6), kickoff scheduled for 11 a.m. The game can be heard on the Leatherneck Sports Network (www.WRMSFM.com), and will be televised on the Big Ten Network (check TV guide for channel and local availability).
