Swimming and Diving Enters Record Book on Day One

The men's 800 Free Relay set a new program record to highlight Day One.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Western Illinois swimming and diving began the 2015 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships with three top-two times in program history.

Dylon Rykosky, Jeremy Grogg, Deven Ries, and Matt Abercrombie set a new program record in the 800 Free Relay, finishing the race in 6:47.87. The previous record of 6:49.09 was set in 1994.

The 200 Women's Medley Relay team of Lizzie Hollopeter, Sarah Rosenhauer, Natalie Cumbie, and Julia Rasmussen put themselves in second place at Western Illinois with a time of 1:46.57. The 200 Men's Medley Relay team matched the performance of the women, recording the second-best time in program history. Chris Neaveill, JD Furr, Chris Allen, and Shawn Farrar combined to finish with a time of 1:32.54, just 0.4 seconds in front of the previous second-best time.

Melanie Pearson finished sixth in the 'B' Final of the Women's 3 Meter Dive. Pearson finished with a score of 160.25.

At the end of the first day, Western Illinois is in sixth on the women's side (57 points) and fourth on the men's side (60 points). Action continues on Thursday (Feb. 19) in Indianapolis.
