MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois Softball (10-25, 5-12 OVC) dropped its series finale OVC matchup against UT Martin 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Bettye Giles Softball Field.Â
The Leathernecks were locked in a scoreless game for seven innings behind a dominant outing from Lillie Wools, who kept UT Martin off the board by limiting the Skyhawks at the plate. Wools went 7.1 innings, allowing just five hits and one unearned run while striking out five, giving Western Illinois a chance to win deep into the game.
The game remained scoreless into the eighth inning before UT Martin broke through with a walk-off RBI single to secure the 1-0 victory.
The Leathernecks will look to build off of the strong defensive effort going into its next conference series at Tennessee State next week.
